We're dedicated to making sure you feel confident and supported throughout the recruitment process and beyond, if you're successful. Whether you've already asked for a reasonable adjustment or you're just starting to think about what might help you, this blog will hopefully help you.
What's a reasonable adjustment?
At the recruitment stage, a reasonable adjustment is a change we can make to remove or reduce any barrier you might face during the process. Depending on the role, this could be something like:
- a bit of extra time for a task or assessment
- interview questions shared in advance
- a different format for written materials
You don't need a formal diagnosis to ask for a reasonable adjustment. We want to focus on what can help you show us what you can do. If you want to make a request, just let us know what you think you need and how it would help. You don't have to share the nature of any condition or diagnosis if you don't want to- we'll work with the information you feel comfortable giving us.

When could a requested adjustment be 'unreasonable' at the recruitment stage?
We can't always accommodate a requested adjustment at the recruitment stage for a number of reasons, for example if it couldn't realistically be supported in the role itself. This is because:
- the adjustment could significantly change the nature of the assessment or role
- if the adjustment puts you at a significant unfair advantage to other candidates
- there's a potential health and safety risk to you or others
We're dedicated to doing right by our candidates, and giving you a transparent flavour of the job you'd actually be doing as well as the environment you'd be working in should you be successful during the process. If we can't agree to a request, we'll always explain why and look at other options available.
When the Recruitment team may involve others
If you tell us about a condition or diagnosis, we won't pass that on unless you've asked us to. Only when necessary, and with your consent, would it be shared with the future/hiring manager, People Partnering, and possibly Health & Safety team. Don't worry, it won't affect your chances of getting the job.
Support doesn't stop at recruitment
If you join us, you'll have the chance to request something called an Inclusion Passport. It's a live document on an internal app that notes any agreed support or reasonable adjustments you need. This is so any conversations made around reasonable adjustments are consistent. It can be updated as things change, and it's a simple way to make sure what you need is understood and accommodated.
